A Small Symbol for Holy Week

There is something powerful about a symbol.

A simple image or object can hold meaning in a way that words sometimes cannot. It becomes a quiet reminder that we return to again and again throughout the day.

During seasons like Lent, I find it helpful to keep one small symbol nearby, something visible on a desk, shelf, or kitchen counter. A visual anchor that gently brings the heart back to what the season is inviting us to notice.

This year, on Palm Sunday, I plan to take one of the palm fronds from worship and fold it into a small cross. I’ll place it on my desk where I work each day. Nothing elaborate. Just a simple reminder of the story unfolding during Holy Week: humility, sacrifice, and the quiet hope that waits on the other side.

Symbols have a way of slowing us down. They invite us to pause, to notice, and to remember.
